Question Hero Generations and the BLind
Posted by: BlindGuyNW - 04-07-2016, 11:42 PM - Forum: General Discussion - Replies (3)

Hello,

I'm writing as someone who just saw Hero Generations announced on Twitter. I'm a huge fan of rogue-like games in general, because I'm totally blind, and the genre has a very strong track record of being playable using screen reading technology.

I'm wondering if any thought has gone into making HG accessible in this way? In general, if a game is text-based, playable from, say, the Linux console, it should be possible to make whatever changes are needed to make it fully accessible.

I also note that there seems to be an iOS version, and while accessible iOS games are not as plentiful as they should be, they are definitely possible.

I realize this is a somewhat unusual request, but would really appreciate any thought that could be put into it. Choices for blind accessible games are limited, compared to the variety available for the sighted. I'd appreciate any information on making this one work. I'm more than wiling to answer questions or provide help if I may.
Thanks much for your consideration Smile

  Announcing Hero Generations: ReGen!
Posted by: Kate - 04-06-2016, 05:49 PM - Forum: General Discussion - No Replies

We're super excited to reveal our new game, Hero Generations: ReGen! Hero Generations: ReGen was created because of the overwhelming demand we’ve received for a phone and tablet version of Hero Generations. But this isn't just a port. We're also taking a lot of the ideas and feedback we've received from fans of the original game, and integrating them into one kick-ass, definitive remake of HG.

We'll be revealing all of the great new features over the course of the next few months, but here are just a few of the big things we have planned:

  • A single giant overworld map, navigable with our new dynamic camera (no more long transitions between worlds).
  • Thanks to our new Unity engine, you'll see higher resolution artwork, all new special effects, and a faster frame rate.
  • Overhauled user interface rebuilt for mobile touchscreens.
  • Online Leaderboards.
  • And of course tons of new items, traits, quests, buildings and more to keep the game endlessly replayable.
For those of you who still love playing the game on PC, stay tuned. We'll have you covered!

Your support was crucial to the success of the original Hero Generations, and we'd love to have you join us for the ride as we make Hero Generations: ReGen. For a sneak peek at the new game, check out our twitch channel today at 3:00pm EST (we'll also be doing regular development streams). And as always, you can follow us on twitter.

Thank you again for all of your support, and we hope you're as excited about Hero Generations: ReGen as we are!

All the best,

Heart Shaped Games Team

Exclamation Yahoo Games Portal Shutting Down - Info For Highgrounds Players
Posted by: scott - 03-10-2016, 05:54 PM - Forum: Bugs & Technical Support - Replies (3)

Hi everyone,

Yahoo Games has just informed us that their web games portal, https://games.yahoo.com/, will be shutting down as of May, 13th, 2016, and they will stop accepting in-game payment on March 14th, 2016. Yahoo Games is one of the many portals Highgrounds is available on, and if you are a player there, that means your account will not be available for play once May 14th hits.

To be clear, this only affects players on Yahoo Games - if you play on our website (http://www.highgroundsgame.com), Kongregate, Armor Games, Newgrounds, or any other website, your account will NOT be affected.

We want our Yahoo Games players to be able to continue playing on our main website, http://www.highgroundsgame.com, and have put together a support system to help you make the transition. Here are the details:

How To Transfer Your Yahoo Games Account to Another Platform
Yahoo Games is a separate account system from our website. Your Login and account will not work if entered into any of our other platforms. There are technical limitations that may prevent us from completely transferring your account to our system in many cases.  We'll do our best on a case-by-case basis to give you an account with as much value as on Yahoo Games. Please take the following steps if you would like to continue playing the game via highgroundsgame.com:

1. E-mail support@heartshapedgames.com with the headline "Yahoo Games Account Transfer".
2. In the email please provide the following information:

a. Your Highgrounds nickname associated with your Yahoo Games account (this is important - this is what let's us find your account info in our system).
b. The email address you use to login to Yahoo Games with.
c.  If you have a highgroundsgame.com site account you would like us to transfer your progress to, please provide the same information as in a & b for that account. If not, please let us know what email you would like to register with, and we will create a new account for you.
d. Whether or not you have made any paid purchases on Yahoo Games. If you can't remember, we can look up the specifics.

3. We will then follow up with you with information on how we'll resolve the transfer, and if there are any issues with data that cannot be brought over. We'll then send you your new account information and instructions for how to login and change your password. In the event we cannot transfer data or purchases, we will try to find other resolutions, such as gem compensation equivalent to purchases, etc.

Note: The timing of this news unfortunately lines up with our development team's trip to the Game Developer's Conference, so there may be a delay in response through next week.

Please feel free to ask any questions you might have about this process in this thread or via our support email address (support@heartshapedgames.com). Thank you for understanding as we work to find the best solution for all of our players affected by the Yahoo Games closure.

  'Raid King' ability is broken
Posted by: LegendaryHobgoblin - 02-25-2016, 01:24 AM - Forum: Bugs & Technical Support - Replies (7)

Avon doesn't attack when facing off against any unit with defense. To be clear, Avon takes no action when a unit with defense is positioned across from him. So for example: Avon could be powered x10 attack strength, but all it takes to completely neutralize him is a unit with 1 defense. This bug seems to be very consistent. I have yet to see him attack a unit that has defense.

What should the rarity tell you of a unit?
Posted by: toorico - 12-23-2015, 04:01 AM - Forum: General Discussion - Replies (6)

The other day I had talk with some other players, and I had the idea that Eezic and Lanir should have been a legendary units, but after some talking, we got to the conclusion that EVEN legendary wasn't able to fit for them, they were just broken units, so I thought to my self, what should the rarity type of a unit tell you? this are my points of view of what the rarity level should be for each unit...

Common and Uncommon: Simple and cheap, they are your basic units. They are for getting either economy or a basic offensive move. they won't win you a match (unless it is a rush deck) but you need them to have a good start for the later game.

rare: here we start to see the more back bone units, this one should be the one that will support and keep you either alive or with a pretty strong attack each turn, OR have something special that will start to turn the table for you.

Ultra rares: this are the ones that should stand up in your deck, this are basically like your generals or special units, they are the one that will bring you victory, but still will need help of the other units, like the rares one.

Legendary: this should be the ones that when you see them, you know that you need to fear your enemy, they should be the ones that make your deck to stand up and beat the other decks because of them, don't get me wrong, I'm not saying to make them Op, but a good example is Cook, he is an excellent example of a legendary, normally gold can have problem with wounding and they don't have big healers like wood have (era) but he is the only unit with 2 defense and 2 healing AND have 2 paladin in the front, that make him super useful and special.

Anyways, that is just my idea, I just feel that some units rarity type are just bad, to give some examples, here are some units....

LANS: Ultra rare.... ok really....

PAYNE: Ultra rare, ok he is kind of.... good? some times? just again rush decks??? I think that he should be just rare.

ANDOR: Rare? not sure, it is between a yea and a no? I mean, he just give you 4 more attack, basically... so why rare?

ALSON: Rare... come on, that black card symbol look too cool for what he does, the only good thing is to MATRIARCH him in to spike...

DRION: Does anyone just her? she is Ultra rare :l

Hey let's talk about trading again
Posted by: youngcrivvens - 12-20-2015, 03:23 PM - Forum: General Discussion - Replies (1)

The following points came up in IRC the other night.

Highgrounds is not a social game. There's no co-operative element. In most CCG style games, the co-operative element is trading (get a card your friend wants, swap it for one you want. Everyone's happy). You can't trade in Highgrounds. If you want to bring a friend into the game, they're on their own. Your only interaction with them is beating the crap out of them with your way higher card pool. In most CCG style games, you dump all your commons/an old deck/etc. on your newbie friend so they can get playing. You can't trade in Highgrounds.

Additionally, the more cards you have, the less decks are worth. The odds of getting a card you actually want are very low. In most CCG style games, once you have most of the cards you start trading your excess gold/rare/shiny cards for other players' good/rare/shiny cards. You can't trade in Highgrounds.

There's no incentive to bring in new players and no incentive for long-term players to spend money. So nobody's spending any money and the game is being mothballed by the devs (not unreasonably, nobody's spending any money). But the issues I've mentioned above all have the same root problem, so if the devs want to try one last thing to keep the game going, trading and gifting (and nerfing Eezic) seem like the way to go.

Pros, cons?

------

The big argument (other than development time) I've heard against trading is the possibility of gem-grinding alts buying units for a main. A fairly obvious solution to this is to only allow trading of duplicates, same as crunching. The amount of grinding required to get three of a unit your main would actually want would make it prohibitively effortful. Besides, if nobody's buying gems already the only way is up, right?
